CUSD has provided limited home-to-school transportation for Coronado Middle School and Silver Strand Elementary School students living in the Strand Housing and the Cays; and for Coronado Middle School and Village Elementary School students living on the Naval Amphibious Base. CUSD's five-year contract with South Bay Union School District to provide these services ends on June 30, 2020.
Education Code Section 39802 requires bidding for expenditures of $10,000 or more unless the contract is within a "common carrier or a municipality owned transit system, or a parent or guardian of the pupils to be transported." The cost of providing home-to-school transportation is approximately $200K annually.
