6.6  Amended/Added: Approval Coronado High School 2020-2021 Bell Schedule  (Reports)

Background Information:

In order to comply with EDC § 47612.6 and BP 6112, which requires 64,800 minutes of instruction in grades nine to twelve, Coronado High School will need to adopt a new bell schedule.  For the 2020-2021 school year, a temporary, extended six period day schedule that is compliant with the instructional minutes requirement will be implemented.  Beyond, 2021, a new bell schedule that meets the vision and priorities outlined in the Long Range Plan needs to be adopted.  Priorities include: (1) compliance with the existing collective bargaining agreement; (2) budget impact; (3) student flexibility, remediation and acceleration; and (4) increase college and career readiness. A comprehensive report and presentation of possible bell schedules was provided during the March 12th Governing Board Meeting. Additionally, two voluntary virtual bell schedule forums were facilitated on May 1st and May 8th to provide additional opportunities for Coronado High School staff to ask questions and share thoughts.  All questions and thoughts were documented and known answers provided. There are 63 certificated teachers at Coronado High School. Twenty-one CHS teachers and ten other CUSD staff members (administrators from DO and CHS, and TOSAs)  were in attendance at the May 1st virtual forum.  Twenty-seven CHS teachers and thirteen other CUSD staff (three Board members, administrators from DO and CHS, and TOSAs) attended the May 8th virtual forum.
