6.4  Solar PV & Battery Energy Storage Feasibility Assessment and Summary of Findings (10 min.)  (Reports)
 

Background Information:

In October 2019, TerraVerde Energy (TerraVerde) was retained by CUSD to perform a district-wide feasibility assessment to identify and evaluate possible solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage systems implementations.  

 

The premise for the feasibility analysis is the District's desire to: 

  • Identify potential solar PV and battery energy storage projects that represent a good fit for the District's facilities.
  • Understand the projected financial benefits of reducing the District's electricity consumption/demand and billing under San Diego Gas and Electric's (SDG&E) current TOU rate tarrifs. 
  • Evaluate investment in renewable energy generation and storage using either solar energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), or cash purchase (District financed) financing options. 

Reports:

A representative with TerraVerde Energy will present their summary of findings.  A detailed report is also attached to this item. 

Financial Impact:
The district has previously contracted with TerraVerde Energy.  There are no additional costs associated with this report. 
Superintendent's Recommendation:
The Superintendent and staff present this information as a first read.  The Governing Board should receive this information as it considers future action(s).
