Elementary Schedules Update
Since our last elementary bell schedule update, site administrators have engaged in numerous collaborative conversations with elementary staff related to the alignment of instructional minutes across grades levels and across the district elementary sites, and the grade level master schedules. Guiding these conversations is the goal to adhere the elementary bell schedule and master schedule for each grade level to the following criteria:
- Create a schedule which is family-friendly and deliberately prioritizes student achievement.
- Increase student contact time with teachers in grades K-3 by calibrating and aligning instructional minutes K-5.
- Limit student transitions to maximize and prioritize instructional minutes.
- In support of academic interventions and enrichment, and to ensure fidelity across grade levels, define blocks of designated time for core academic instruction K-5.
- In alignment with collective bargaining agreement and best practices / professional growth, ensure daily teacher prep time (TK-5) by grade level.
- Provide weekly collaboration time for ‘co-teachers’.

We believe the new bell schedule aligns with the criteria set and provides the time and structure necessary to support key CUSD initiatives:
1. Alignment of instructional minutes (K-5) to support new math curricula and addition of daily SEL experiences.
2. Designated professional development / collaboration time for teachers.
3. Increase targeted intervention and enrichment resources by grade level.
