6.1  Approve One Year Contract Extension and 1.5% Salary Increase for Superintendent Mueller  (Action)

The Governing Board completed its annual evaluation of Superintendent Mr. Karl Mueller in closed session on May 17, 2018 and June 7, 2018. In accordance with his contract, the Superintendent was evaluated on his performance in the following six categories: Business and Financial Matters, Staff and Personnel Relations, Educational Programs, Professional and Leadership Development, Community Relations, and Board/Superintendent Relations.

 

During the 2017-2018 school year, Mr. Mueller demonstrated growth in all performance categories. The Trustees commend Mr. Mueller for his handling of significant challenges with regards to fiscal constraints, personnel issues, labor negotiations, and a demand for improved school safety. The Governing Board concluded that Mr. Mueller was an effective employee throughout the 2017-18 school year and merits an overall positive evaluation in his job performance.

 

Under the terms of Mr. Mueller's current employment Agreement with the Governing Board, upon receiving a satisfactory evaluation, his salary may be increased by up to 1.5%. In recognition of Mr. Mueller’s growth as a superintendent, and as he enters the third year of his contract, the Governing Board hereby proposes to amend the Agreement to increase Mr. Mueller's base salary by 1.5%, effective July 1, 2018, which will increase his base salary to $192,850. The Governing Board further proposes to amend the Agreement to extend his term from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021. A copy of the proposed amendment, which is subject to Board approval in open session at its regular meeting on June 21, 2018, is attached hereto.
