| | 6.4 Costs to Install, Operate and Maintain Air Conditioning District-Wide (Report) |
|
| | | | | | | | | Background Information:
The Governing Board has requested information as to the cost to install, operate and maintain air conditioning for all District facilities.
Cumming, Inc., a recognized industry expert in estimating construction costs, has prepared a study addressing this request for information. |
|
| | | | | | | | | Reports:
The Cumming data regarding costs for installation is provided as an attachment. The original study proposal was for one campus to be examined in-depth, with those results then being extrapolated to other sites. Cumming actually investigated air conditioning installation at three campuses in-depth, including the CHS, CMS and Village locations. The first three pages of the attachment are a summary for the entire District. That total cost is $27 million, less approximately $2 million for air conditioning that is currently in place. Up to an additional $4 million could be deducted if current ducting, ceilings and electrical will work in some locations that do not currently have air conditioning. Thus, the range of costs for the installing air conditioning for the entire District is $21 million to $27 million. The remaining pages of the report provide building by building summaries for each of the three campuses. For example, the cost to install air conditioning in the CHS 400 building only is estimated at $1.9 million (including probable electrical upgrades and potential ducting/ceiling upgrades), and the cost to install air conditioning for all buildings at Village Elementary is estimated at $6.1 million.
Cumming is still developing an estimate of the costs needed to operate and maintain this air conditioning. That estimate will be provided to the Board as soon as it is available. |
|
| | | | | | | | | Financial Impact:
There is no financial impact for the Board to receive this report. The $7,920 cost of the study will be paid from The Special Reserve Fund for Capital Outlay (Fund 40). None of the costs for installing or operating additional air conditioning units have been built into the District budget.
